Cyclone Women Ink 6 In 2014 Recruiting Class
AMES, Iowa – Iowa State women’s cross country coach Andrea Grove-McDonough announced the 2014 recruiting class for Iowa State women’s track and field. The class features four athletes from across the nation, as well as two from Canada. All six recruits signed their national letters of intent to run for the Cyclones last week.
Grove-McDonough is looking forward to getting the class in Ames and onto campus.
“We are really excited about the group of women that will be joining the program this fall,” Grove-McDonough said. “We really wanted to bring in athletes who have the right attitude and will enhance the culture that we want at Iowa State. Each of the newcomers is a great fit for me personally and my style of coaching. It's a talented and athletic group, and everyone is really excited about being a cyclone and we can't wait to get them on campus.”
The Recruits Are…
Margaret Connelly. Connelly comes to Iowa State from Brown University, where she will graduate this spring. She will use her final year of eligibility to compete for the Cyclones. The former Bear was a 2012 NCAA cross country individual qualifier and placed seventh at the Northeast regional championships. Connelly comes in with personal bests of 9:31.87 (3000m) and 16:31.56 (5000m). She has also posted a 6K time of 20:41 in cross country.
Olivia Robertson. Robertson is one of two Canadians joining the Iowa State roster next fall. The Ottawa, Ontario, native has notched two top-five finishes at the 2013 Ontario High School Provincial Championships, finishing third in the 3000m and fifth in the 1500m. Robertson holds personal records of 4:31.56 in the 1500m and 9:46.77 in the 3000m.
Erin Norton. Norton is one of the top cross country runners in Colorado and qualified for the Nike National Championships after placing eighth at the regional meet. The Grandview High School product comes to Ames with personal bests of 5:00.20 (1600m), 10:59.93 (3200m) and a cross country time of 17:47.70 (5K course). Each of Norton’s marks were achieved at altitude.
Jacqueline Feist. One of the top middle distance runners in Michigan, Feist notched a fifth-place finish at the state championships last season in the 800m. Feist currently attends Birmingham Groves High School and comes to Iowa State with marks of 58.62 in the 400m, 2:10.87 in the 800m and 4:57.90 in the 1600m.
Evelyne Guay. Guay joins Robertson as the second Canadian on the 2014 fall roster. The Toronto, Ontario, native won the 800m run at the Ontario High School Provinicial Championships and holds personal bests of 57.00 (400m) and 2:10.66 (800m).
Abby Caldwell. Caldwell comes to Iowa State as one of the strongest 1500m runners in Iowa and also placed fourth in the 800m at last year’s state championships. The Waverly-Shell Rock High School product holds personal bests of 2:18.89 (800m) and 4:44.08 (1500m). Caldwell was also named as an All-State honoree in volleyball.
