Woelber In 10th After Day 1 of Drake Heptathlon
DES MOINES, Iowa – Iowa State multi-event athletes Bree Woelber and Taylor Sanderson opened Cyclone competition at the 105th Drake Relays, Wednesday. Woelber sits in 10th place after Day 1, while Sanderson withdrew from competition after the 100-meter dash.
The Pipestone, Minnesota, native kicked things off in the 100-meter hurdles, setting a personal best in the event with a mark of 14.44 seconds. Woelber finished 11th overall in the event, and moved into seventh after the high jump, where she cleared a height of 5 feet, 4.25 inches. A throw of 32’09” in the shot put led to a ninth-place finish, dropping Woelber into eighth overall. In the final event of the day, the 200-meter dash, the Cyclone junior notched a time of 26.83 seconds, just .19 seconds off of her personal best. Woelber ends Day 1 with 2,942 points, and holds a career best of 4,679 in the heptathlon.
In the 100-meter dash, Sanderson put up a time of 11.48 seconds, one tenth of a second off of his personal best in the event. After fouling on his first attempt in the long jump, he was forced to withdraw from competition.
