Mayfield Named Big 12 Scholar Athlete Of The Year

IRVING, Texas – Max Mayfield received another academic honor on Tuesday, as the Big 12 office announced its inaugural 2013 Big 12 Scholar-Athlete of theYear Award for wrestling. Mayfield was also an Academic All-Big 12 First-Team member.

Mayfield has received an undergraduate degree from Iowa State in computer science. The Davenport, Iowa native is currently studying graduate-level Business Administration and will wrap up his course work in May 2014. Mayfield has maintained above a 3.20 cumulative GPA throughout his time at Iowa State.

A number of Cyclones received Big 12 Scholar Athlete of the Year accolades in their respective sports. Mayfield joins Jamie Straube (volleyball), Meaghan Nelson (cross country and track and field), Elizabeth Stranahan (gymnastics) and Melvin Ejim (basketball) on the list of Iowa State recipients, the most from any school in the Big 12.
