AMES, Iowa- The 2013 Cyclone Soccer roster contains 10 freshmen on it, with many of them making key contributions to the team this season – one of those freshmen is Koree Willer.

In just her first game Willer came up huge for the Cyclones with the game winning goal against South Dakota State. The Fort Collins, Colo. native has played a vital role to lead Iowa State to a 3-1 record so far this season.

While Willer has already shown her playmaking abilities on the field, she has a full time schedule outside of sports too. Cyclones.com caught up with the young playmaker.

What made you decide to come to Iowa State?

“I chose Iowa State for a lot of reasons. I am in the engineering college and they have a very good engineering program here. I really like the team and the coaches here. My dad ran track here, and I have some family around this area so helped in my decision.”

How did it feel to score the game winning goal against SDSU?

“It was great. The game was very competitive in the last couple of minutes. To know that it was the first goal of my collegiate career is pretty cool. I can’t take credit for it though, the team pushed through in the end to get that goal.”

Iowa State has seven players on their roster from Fort Collins, Colo. Did that play a role in your decision to come here?

“It’s kind of weird how it worked out. We definitely didn’t plan it from the start. There are two seniors from Fort Collins, so there was already a connection there. It’s nice to have people you know, especially with experience. I have really enjoyed it so far and it hasn’t been where I have not met new people either. It’s a great balance and I like it.”

Do you have a favorite sports memory?

“My first goal, because it was really cool to get to celebrate with my teammates. Knowing I have their support is huge.”

When you’re not playing soccer what are you doing?

“If I’m not studying for school I’m usually hanging around with friends. Being so busy it’s nice to relax sometimes.”

What’s your favorite movie?

“The Gladiator.”

What’s usually playing on your iPod?

“I like a little bit of anything, it just depends on my mood.”

Cyclones.com will be introducing other players throughout the season. Check back later for our next player introduction.
