Became the 39th two-time All-American in program history after going 5-2 en route to a fourth-place finish on the podium at the NCAA Championships… advanced to his first NCAA quarterfinal round with a 5-3 win over 2013 All-American Taylor Meeks of Oregon State… wrestled back all the way to the third-place match after falling 6-4 to two-time All-American Scott Schiller of Minnesota in the quarters… pinned No. 9 seed Christian Boley of Maryland 2:41 into the match in the round of 12 to become an All-American… beat All-American Morgan McIntosh of Penn State 5-3 in the consolation quarterfinals… pinned NCAA-semifinalist Chris Penny of Virginia Tech in the second period of the consolation semifinals… fell to Schiller 9-6 in the consolation championship… finished the season 30-4 overall and 15-0 in duals for the second consecutive season… all four of his losses were to Schiller… won his second consecutive Big 12 title on March 8 in Norman… became the first father-son duo in program history with his late dad, Willie, to be two-time conference champs and two-time All-Americans… finished the regular season ranked No. 1 at 197 pounds by InterMat, TheOpenMat.com, ASICS Flowrestling and W.I.N. Bounced back from a severe shoulder injury in his freshman season to become an All-American at 197 pounds… went 30-5 en route to a sixth-place finish at the 2013 NCAA Championships… came into the NCAA tournament as the No. 6 seed at 197 pounds… 2013 Big 12 champion, as he defeated All-American Blake Rosholt of Oklahoma State by way of a 5-4 decision in the title match… went 15-0 in dual competition, going 7-0 against ranked foes… after a fourth-place finish at the 50th Midlands Championships, ended the dual season on a 14-match winning streak… posted bonus point victories in eight of ISU’s 16 duals… earned Big 12 Wrestler of the Week honors four-times, tying 141-pound national champion Kendric Maple of Oklahoma for the most Big 12 weekly accolades… runner-up at the UNI Open due to a forfeit in the championship match for injury concerns… made history with fellow All-American Michael Moreno, as the two joined their fathers (Mike and the late Willie) as the first father-son All-American duos in ISU wrestling history.
Made Iowa State debut in home dual meet with Oklahoma, falling 6-1 to Keldrick Hall … suffered season ending shoulder injury in the first period of the match.
