Cyclones Storm to Victory over Tulsa
TULSA, Okla. – The Iowa State football team stormed out in front of the Tulsa Golden Hurricane at H.A. Chapman Stadium with a 38-21 victory. The Cyclones (1-2) were led by junior Aaron Wimberly who pounded it out on the ground for 137 yards, becoming the first Cyclone running back to gain 100 yards since the 2012 season opener against Tulsa.
Turning Point of the Game
With the score tied at 14, Tulsa quarterback Cody Green fumbled the ball 37 seconds into the half deep in Tulsa territory where it was recovered by Cory Morrissey at the 28-yard line. The turnover would prove costly for the Golden Hurricane as the Cyclones would capitalize with a 16-yard touchdown from quarterback Sam Richardson to junior E.J. Bibbs. The Cyclones would score again just two drives later for a 14-point lead.

Offensive Game Ball Goes To...
Wimberly, who finished the game with career highs in rushing and receiving yards with 137 on the ground and 31 yards receiving for 168 yards of total offense. In the first quarter, Wimberly was responsible for two crucial plays to keep the Cyclone drives alive, the second being the most notable, a 35-yard rush to take the ball to the 1-yard line. The electrifying run by the junior, which was the longest of his career and for the Cyclones on the season, would result in a Cyclone touchdown.
His 137 yards were the most by a Cyclone running back since James White nabbed 138 against Texas Tech in the 2011 season. Wimberly also recorded a career-high 19 carries for the Cyclones.
Defensive Game Ball Goes To...
Nick Kron. The sophomore from Clive, Iowa, recorded two fumble recoveries in the first half to halt the Golden Hurricane. Kron is the third Cyclone this season with two fumble recoveries as Deon Broomfield picked up two earlier this season and Morrissey nabbed his second on the season in the second half.
