IOWA CITY, Iowa – The Iowa State divers closed out the Iowa Invitational with a pair of finals appearances by senior Jessica Henderson and sophomore Elyse Brouillette. Henderson’s final platform score of 217.75 earned her a 7th place finish while Brouillette claimed 10th with a score of 210.60.

The Cyclones joined Notre Dame in being the only two teams represented in the final heat of both the 3-meter and platform diving events at the Iowa Invitational.

In her first time back to the University Aquatic Center since her concussion last year, Henderson broke her personal best on the platform with a prelim score of 217.00. She went onto break it again during her finals performance with a 0.75 point improvement.

“I was just ready to do well, and all the diving we have done this weekend set me up to have a good day,” Henderson said. “I was feeling a little tired, but we had a good warm up and there was no hesitation for me on the board.”

Henderson was sidelined for the majority of her junior year after sustaining a concussion on the 10-meter platform in Iowa City, Iowa. According to head diving coach Jeff Warrick, Henderson has leaned heavily on her career experience throughout her recovery and this season.

“Her performance today was a result of her experience and how long she has been diving,” Warrick said. “Last year we would have seen performances like this if she was able to dive.”

Brouillette, who entered finals with a 7th place seed after a prelim score of 226.95, slid into a 10th place finish on the platform event. Minor details kept Brouillette from climbing the leader board, according to Warrick.

“She did well in both rounds; she was really solid today,” Warrick said. “There were some minor things that I saw, but those half points do add up quickly. We need to work on those small things.”

Iowa State’s freshmen divers continued to gain valuable experience today as both Julie Dickinson and Rebecca Stochl participated in a platform diving event for the first time in their careers.

“All four of our divers did really well today,” Warrick said. “Our two freshmen have something to build on after their first time competing on the platform.”

The Cyclones will be back in action on Dec. 13 as Iowa State hosts the Iowa Hawkeyes for a dual meet at the Beyer Hall Pool. The Iowa Corn Cy-Hawk Series hits the water at 6:00 p.m.
