Cyclones Place Two in Top-15 at Georgia Invite
ATHENS, Ga. – The Iowa State diving team wrapped up competition at the Georgia Invitational in Athens, Ga. with two Cyclones finishing in the top-15 of the platform event. Sophomore Elyse Brouillette and senior Jessica Henderson lead the squad with an 11th and 15th place finish, respectively.
“They all had a really solid day,” Iowa State head diving coach Jeff Warrick said. “This is definitely the best team performance that we’ve had this weekend.”
Brouillette, who battled slow starts on days one and two, emerged as the team leader in the platform event. The 2012-13 ISU most valuable diver followed up her 10th place, 210.60-point performance at the Iowa Invitational with a 205.90-point performance today.
“She started the day with more confidence,” Warrick said. “Part of it was based on the rough starts and knowing that she is better than that. She really learned from her negative experiences.”
After posted two top-20 performances on Friday and Saturday, Henderson tallied another top finish on conclude the weekend with a score of 190.60 on the platform. The Cyclone veteran has yet to finish outside of the top-20 during an invitational event in the 2013-14 season.
“She definitely has her overall best performance today,” Warrick said. “She dove really well, but there are always things that we can improve upon. I was really happy with how she did on each of her dives.”
LSU’s Cassie Weil took home yet another top finish on the weekend with a score of 291.70 in the platform event. The Cyclones are scheduled to return to Ames, Iowa on Jan. 8.
