Softball Unveils Spring 2014 Schedule

For the fourth season in a row, the 2014 slate will begin inside the Bergstrom Football Complex with a doubleheader of ISU contests on Feb. 8-9. On Saturday the 8th, Iowa State kicks off the season at noon against Indiana State and follows it up at 2:30 p.m. with a game against South Dakota State. The next day, the Cyclones host the SDSU Jackrabbits at 9:30 a.m. followed by a game against the Sycamores of Indiana State at noon.
Iowa State then hits the road for five consecutive weekend tournaments, starting with the Troy Cox Classic hosted by New Mexico State in Las Cruces, N.M. Iowa State will have five games in three days against hosts New Mexico State, Northern Colorado, Texas A&M-Corpus Christi and Weber State.
The Cyclones then travel to Santa Clara, Calif. for a pair of games against Santa Clara and Sacramento State. The next weekend will see Iowa State travel to Baton Rouge, La. for the Purple & Gold Challenge. The game at 4:30 p.m. on March 1 will mark the first game of 2014 against an NCAA Tournament team when the Cyclones take on the host LSU Tigers. The other three teams at LSU: Harvard, Jackson State and Lamar, will be playing Iowa State for the first time in program history.
ISU then travels to Wichita, Kan. for a tournament before wrapping up tournament season in Louisville, Ky. which features games against 2013 WCWS participant Michigan and the first two meetings all-time between the Cyclones and the Wisconsin Badgers. On March 19, Iowa State travels to Lincoln, Neb. to take on another 2013 WCWS participant in the Nebraska Cornhuskers.
Iowa State returns home on March 23 with a doubleheader against Northern Illinois at noon and 2 p.m. for the first games of the season at the Cyclone Sports Complex. On the last weekend of March, Iowa State opens up its Big 12 slate with a three-game series against 2013 NCAA Champions Oklahoma.
The Sooners will be joined by 2013 WCWS participant Texas (Apr. 11-13) and NCAA Tournament-participant Baylor (May 2-4) as Big 12 series’ the Cyclones will host in 2014. Iowa State will travel to Oklahoma State (Apr. 4-6), Texas Tech (Apr. 25-27) and Kansas (May 9-11) in Big 12 play.
Iowa State will take on all of its in-state rivals during the regular season. On Apr. 2, Iowa State will make the trip to Cedar Falls to take on the UNI Panthers. A week later on Apr. 9, the Cyclones travel to Des Moines to play the Drake Bulldogs. Apr. 23 will mark the Iowa Corn Cy-Hawk Series meeting against the Iowa Hawkeyes as the Cyclone Sports Complex.
Drake will also be the final home game of the 2014 season for Iowa State, as the Bulldogs comes to Ames on May 6 for a 4 p.m. contest.
The NCAA Regionals will be May 16-18, followed by Super Regionals on May 23-25. The Women’s College World Series will be in Oklahoma City, Okla. and take place from May 29-June 4.
