AMES, Iowa - To say that Steve ('79 industrial administration) and Debbie Bergstrom bleed Cardinal and Gold is a giant understatement. For more than 30 years the Bergstroms have been one of Iowa State's staunchest supporters and they continue to prove their loyalty to this day.

With the help of the lead gift from the Bergstroms, the new Iowa State Football Training Center will become a reality.

"I am a big fan of Iowa State," said Steve Bergstrom. "One of the big advantages of living in Texas is that I get to see what Iowa State has to compete against. I know how important facilities are to recruiting and when (Iowa State Athletics Director) Jamie (Pollard) came to me about the football training center, I obviously saw a need for it. I told him, 'let's get after it' and see if we can find other people to chip in. We have to help continue to grow the football program because it's the engine that drives the bus for the rest of the athletic programs."

"We really appreciate Debbie and Steve's generosity to Iowa State University and our athletics program," Iowa State Athletics Director Jamie Pollard said. "Their continued leadership support for our program over the years has been instrumental in our retaining coaches, recruiting student-athletes and building a competitive athletics program that all Cyclone fans can enjoy.  So much of what we have accomplished would simply not have been possible without their support."

Construction of the training center is in its early stages and the impact it will make on the Iowa State football program is immeasurable.

"The new training center is a statement about Iowa State's commitment to providing the environment for our student-athletes to succeed on and off the field," Iowa State head football coach Paul Rhoads said. "It upgrades what we can do to ensure that our players reach their full potential. It will be an essential boost to our support units: athletic training, game operations, communications and equipment staff. I want to thank the Bergstroms for assisting us in achieving our goals."

The Bergstroms also provided the lead gift for the Steve and Debbie Bergstrom Indoor Training Facility that was dedicated in 2004. They also gave support to the Jacobson Athletic Building, the Sukup Basketball Complex, student-athlete scholarships, the Gerdin Business Building, the Business College Founders Club, the Allen Scholarship Fund and the Business Dean's Advisory Council Fund.

Steve serves as an ISU Foundation Governor and as a member of the investment committee. The Bergstroms are members of the Order of the Knoll W.M. Beardshear Society and the Campanile Society. and they received the ISU Foundation's Campanile Award in 2008.  Steve was the recipient of the College of Business Citation of Achievement in 1997. The Bergstroms are members of the Cyclone Club and life members of the ISU Alumni Association

Steve is an energy consultant. The Bergstroms, originally from Clarion, Iowa, reside in Montgomery, Texas. They are proud parents of two children: Rebecca and Jeffrey (2007, business finance).  Jeffrey was a four-year letterman on the Iowa State men's basketball team (2004-07).
