Peterson is one of the finest wrestlers in Cyclone history, capturing two NCAA titles and three Big Eight championships. The Comstock, Wis., native wrestled at Iowa State from 1969-72, helping ISU earned two national championships and one second-place finish. Peterson won the gold medal at the 1972 Olympic Games in Munich. At the 1976 Olypmics Montreal, Peterson captured the silver medal. Peterson is the only ISU wrestler to win two medals in Olympic competition. He is also the only Cyclone and just the fourth U.S. wrestler to be named to three Olympic teams when he was selected to compete in the 1980 Moscow Games.
