Jeff Hornacek is one of the greatest stories in Cyclone history. The guard came to Iowa State as a walk-on in the winter 1981-82, and went on to shatter the Big Eight Conference career assist record his senior season with 665. He concluded his career as only the second player in conference history to score 1,000 points and record 600 assists while setting or tying eight school records.
At point guard, he led ISU to the 1983-84 NIT, the 1984-85 NCAA Tournament and the 1986 NCAA Sweet Sixteen. The senior capped a brilliant collegiate career by helping the Cyclones to a school-record 22 wins and a second-place regular-season conference finish.
