Datz Qualifies For U.S. Mid-Amateur

AMES, Iowa - Iowa State assistant men's golf coach Patrick Datz shot a 65 today at the United States Mid-Amateur qualifier at Ames Golf & Country Club.

Datz' 6-under round punches his ticket to the U.S. Mid-Amateur, Sept. 8-13 at the Conway Farms Golf Club in Lake Forest, Ill. The United States Golf Association event was established in 1981 for amateurs ages 25 or older.

A native of Bluffton, S.C., Datz is entering his third season as an assistant for the Iowa State men's golf team. After a brief professional career, Datz reclaimed his amateur status in January of 2012. He tied for 11th at the Iowa Amateur in July.

Datz will be participating in his second USGA national event. He qualified for the 2007 United States Amateur at the Olympic Club in San Francisco, Calif.
