PACIFIC PALISADES, Calif. -Nate McCoy capped off his incredible Iowa State career by carding a 72 in the final round of the 2012 NCAA Men's Golf Championships at The Riviera Country Club this afternoon. McCoy ended the tournament in a tie for 29th out of 156 competitors at 217 (72-73-72).

McCoy's round today was similar to his first two loops. He was able to make enough par saves to minimize the high scores, but in the end, didn't hit enough greens or make enough birdies to toss a red number on the scoreboard. However, the Cyclone was a model of consistency on the course throughout the entire tournament. In 54 holes, he had eight bogeys and one double bogey. The other 45 holes he registered birdies or pars.

McCoy started the day with a birdie on No. 1 and later birdied No. 17. He got up and down six times, including an impressive sand save on No. 10 where he had little green to work with.

"I was really happy with how I finished," McCoy said. "I got the birdie on No. 17 and was then able to save a par on 18."

McCoy, who will turn professional and begin playing on the Canadian Tour, recorded one of the finest seasons in Iowa State history this past year. He was named All-Big 12 First-Team, notched eight top-10 finishes, won two tournaments and became the first Cyclone to appear in a NCAA Championship since 1980.

His 71.65 season stroke average this year is the best in school history.

McCoy certainly solidified his legacy in Cyclone history.

"He has meant so much to our program both on and off the golf course," Iowa State head coach Andrew Tank said. "We will miss him, but I am really excited to follow his professional career in the next chapter of his life."
