Cyclones Sixth at Furman Invite

GREENVILLE, S.C. – Iowa State’s Scott Fernandez fired a first-round 69 to help the Iowa State men’s golf team occupy sixth place after day one of the Furman Invitational Friday afternoon.

Fernandez, a Ben Hogan Award watch list member, is currently tied for fifth in the medalist race at 3-under.

The Cyclones as a team carded a 292 this afternoon, two shots behind Chattanooga. Virginia Tech is in first place at 280, followed by second-place North Florida at 284.

Collin Foster carded a 73 to put him in a tie for 23rd and Zach Steffen fired a 74 to sit in a tie for 36th to pace the Cyclone effort.

The tournament will resume with 18 holes tomorrow followed by the final 18 holes on Sunday.
