Cyclones T9th At ASU Thunderbird Invite

TEMPE, Ariz. - The Iowa State men’s golf team is tied for ninth place after the first round at the ASU Thunderbird Invitational. The Cyclones shot a 290 in the first round, equaling the second-best single-round team score of the spring season.

New Mexico currently leads the team competition, shooting a 276 over the first 18 holes. Each of the Lobos shot at or below par. New Mexico is currently five strokes ahead of second place San Diego State (281).

Ben Hogan Award watch list member Scott Fernandez led the Cyclones with a 69 and is currently tied for sixth in the medalist race. Fernandez is currently five strokes behind Oregon State’s Nick Chianello (64).

Sam Daley and Zach Steffen carded matching 73’s in the Cyclone effort.

Iowa State will return to the links tomorrow morning at 9:30 a.m. CDT for the second round of the ASU Thunderbird Invitational.
