Eight Cyclone Golfers Named Academic All-Big 12
AMES, Iowa – The Iowa State men’s and women’s golf teams had multiple selections to the 2013 Academic All-Big 12 team, the league office announced Tuesday.
Five Cyclone men earned All-Big 12 First-Team honors, compiling a 3.20 GPA or higher. Junior Duncan Croudis (Finance), sophomore Sam Daley (Finance), redshirt freshman Collin Foster (Biology), junior Zach Steffen (Finance) and sophomore Blake Waller (Finance) gave Iowa State the most first-team nominees of any team in the conference. There were 20 men’s first-team selections in total.
Sophomore Chonlada Chayanun (Liberal Studies) and junior Prima Thammaraks (Art & Design) were awarded first-team honors for the Cyclone women, with junior Sasikarn On-iam (Liberal Studies) also earning a second-team selection.
To qualify, student-athletes must maintain a 3.00 GPA or higher (either cumulative or the two previous semesters) and must have participated in 60 percent of their team’s scheduled contests. Freshmen and transfers are not eligible in their first year of academic residence. Senior student-athletes who have participated for a minimum of two years and meet all the criteria except percent of participation are also eligible. A total of 27 and 28 golfers were honored from the men’s and women’s sides, respectively.
