Cyclones Runner-Up At VCU Shootout

MANAKIN-SABOT, Va. - The Iowa State men’s golf team carded a final-round 294 at the VCU Shootout this afternoon to finish runner-up in its second consecutive tournament (863). Virginia Tech was the team champion at 841.

The Cyclones were runner-up at the Columbia Regional Preview last week.

Freshman Ruben Sondjaja earned his second-straight top-10 finish by tying for ninth to pace the Cyclones. Sondjaja carded a 1-under 71 this afternoon to give him a three-round 215 (70-74-71) total. Freshman Nick Voke was also 1-under (71) today to tie for 21st (77-71-71) at 219.

Rookies Sondjaja and Voke have both recorded a pair of top-10 finishes in three tournaments this season for the Cyclones.

Junior All-American Scott Fernandez finished the tournament in a tie for 19th after shooting rounds of 72-72-74 for a 218 total. In his debut as a Cyclone, freshman Jack Carter tied for 32nd (222) after firing a final-round 71 this afternoon.

The Cyclones will return to the links on October 5th at the David Toms Invitational in Baton Rouge, Louisiana.
