Cyclone Women Fifth at Roy Griak Invitational

MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. – The No. 26 ranked Iowa State women’s cross country team finished fifth today at the 28th annual Roy Griak Invitational behind a third place showing by Cyclone sophomore Crystal Nelson.

Nelson finished the 6,000-meter race in 20:50 and was with the lead pack from the start. Perez Rotich (17th), Bethanie Brown (21st) and Katy Moen (28th) also notched top-30 finishes. The Cyclones were one of five teams to have four runners to finish among the top 30 individuals.

The Cyclones were without team captain Samantha Bluske in today’s competition.

Iowa State finished ahead of two higher ranked opponents in No. 20 Vanderbilt and No. 21 North Carolina State.

No. 5 Arizona took home the team title with a score of 48. Arizona State’s Shelby Houlihan captured the individual crown with a time of 20:36.

The Cyclones will return to action Oct. 19 at the Wisconsin Adidas Invitational in Madison, Wis.
