OXFORD, Miss.- The Iowa State soccer team fell to the Ole Miss Rebels 1-0 Sunday at the Ole Miss Soccer Stadium in Oxford, Miss. The game rounds out Iowa State’s road trip to the state of Mississippi after Friday’s 5-1 victory over Mississippi State.

Turning Point of the Game
In the 23rd the minute, an Iowa State defender and Ole Miss forward tangled near the Cyclone goal awarding Ole Miss a penalty kick. Rebel goalkeeper Kelly McCormick took the penalty kick and was able to sneak it into the Cyclone goal. Iowa State goalkeeper Andrea Swanson was able to get a finger on the shot, but not enough to deflect the shot from the goal.

Andrea Swanson. The senior goalkeeper had numerous impressive saves to keep the Cyclone goal safe. The lone goal scored on Swanson came from a penalty kick that the senior came very close to saving.

Coach Said It
“It was a tough game,” head coach Tony Minatta said. “The conditions were tough with the heat index well over 100 degrees. We came out a little sluggish and it was tough losing Haley Albert so early. When we got a footing and settled into the game we already had given up the goal on the penalty kick. I thought we really put the pressure on them in the second half, but just could not connect for the equalizer. Ole Miss is a very good team. They are organized and disciplined. In the end I thought we had a great road trip. We really grew as a team and are heading back to Ames much better than we were before we came here. I’m very proud of the effort and resolve of this team.”

Game Notes
* Senior goalkeeper Andrea Swanson recorded 2 saves. She now has 167 saves in her career.
* The game marks the first loss of the Tony Minatta era.
