AMES – The Iowa State swimming and diving team was named a College Swimming Coaches Association of America (CSCAA) Scholar All-America Team for the spring semester. As a team, the Cyclones put together a 3.28 GPA to earn a spot on the spring scholar team list. The Cyclones’ 3.28 GPA ranked second in the Big 12.

Cyclones Dani Harris, Bre Loeschke and Imelda Wistey each earned Scholar All-American honorable mention status for their work in the classroom and in the pool. The trio was also named to the Academic All-Big 12 team this season.

Harris, a senior from Clive, Iowa,  ranked first this season for the Cyclones in the 200 IM and second in the 100 and 200 backstroke. Wistey, a junior from West Des Moines, Iowa, set a new school record in the 100 breaststroke at the Big 12 Championship with a 1:01.35. Loeschke on the other hand was tabbed the Most Improved Swimmer for the 2012-13 season after setting a new school record in the 200 backstroke at the Big 12 Championship with a time of 1:56.90.

To qualify as a Scholar All-America team the Cyclones had to maintain a 3.0 team GPA. To be named a Scholar All-American a student-athlete must receive points at the NCAA Championship. Student athletes with a 3.5 or higher grade point average are awarded honorable mention status if they do not receive points in the championships but earn an NCAA “B” cut time.
