AMES, Iowa - Iowa State senior swimmer Amy Bauer was recognized by the Big 12 Conference Wednesday as a member of its winter 2011 Chick-Fil-A Community of Champions.

The award recognizes one athlete from each Big 12 institution for his or her commitment to academics, community service and leadership/sportsmanship.

"I think that is a big deal as a student-athlete not to just focus on the athletic part of our lives but also our work with SAAC (Student-Athlete Advisory Council)," Bauer said. "It shows that you are a good representative of Iowa State and the Big 12."

Bauer serves as secretary for the SAAC and has helped with projects through Iowa State's Dance Marathon and the Kiwanis Miracle League of Des Moines. Bauer has also been an exceptional student during her time at Iowa State, earning Academic All-Big 12 honors twice.

The full list of honorees can be seen here.
