Brouillette Continues Competition At Zone Meet
HOUSTON, Texas- Iowa State freshman diver Elyse Brouillette continued her NCAA Zone ‘D' Diving Championship debut on Tuesday at the CRWC on the University of Houston campus. Brouillette finished 32nd on the 1-meter board with a score of 236.30.
“Today I felt mixed emotions, overall I was happy with how she preformed,” diving coach Jeff Warrick said. “It was another great day of experience for her as a freshman, and its such a grueling meet so you need to be highly consistent and very competitive. I was very pleased though with how she handled herself and staying composed.”
The freshman began the 1-meter competition with her most difficult first dive, a forward 2 ½ somersault pik,e scoring 35.10. Brouillette's highest score was 46.20 on her fifth dive, a reverse 1 ½ somersault ½ twist free, before she struggled on her last dive, scoring 25.00, on a back 1 ½ somersault 1 ½ twist free.
“Going into her last dive she was about only seven points away from 11th and unfortunately she had a bad last dive,” Warrick said. “She was going for it but didn’t hit her entry, so that set her back. She did really well today, just her first and last dives were a little off, so we need to work on being more consistent."
Competition will conclude Wednesday with platform beginning at 11 a.m. CST.
