Cyclones Prepare For Intrasquad Meet
Ames, IA – The Iowa State swimming and diving team is set to hit the pool for its annual intrasquad meet at Beyer Hall on Friday. Doors open at 6:00 p.m. and admission to the event is free.
The meet will provide friendly competition as the team looks for top times and competitive races during the first scored event of the season. The intrasquad meet will provide an exciting preview for what’s to come throughout the upcoming season.
Throughout the offseason, the coaching staff focused on improving the team’s training program by spending more time in the weight room and in the pool. After a long summer of intense training and two-a-day practices, the team is ready for some friendly competition.
“We have really increased our training in the weight room,” senior Alex Gustafson said. “Our weight coach put together a whole new program, and we just bumped up our weights, made ourselves stronger, and made ourselves more agile.”
The Cardinal team is led by 2012-13 Most Valuable Diver, Elyse Brouillette, and senior Imelda Wistey; while school record holder Bre Loeschke and two-time ISU Most Valuable Swimmer Amanda Paulson led the charge for the Gold team.
The team’s first official meet of the season will be against Nebraska on Oct. 12 in Lincoln, Neb. The Cyclones and the Huskers have not seen each other in dual meet competition since the 2011-12 season.
