ATHENS, Ga. – The Cyclones returned to the diving well for day two of the Georgia Invitational in the Gabrielsen Natatorium of Athens, Ga. Iowa State finished the 3-meter event with two divers in the top-30 in a field of 52 divers from across the U.S.

The lone senior on the Cyclone diving squad Jessica Henderson led her team for the second time in two days with an 18th place finish. Henderson’s 254.05-point performance missed the cut for 3-meter finals by just 17.60.

“I definitely think that I can do much better than I did today,” Henderson said. “The difference was just a couple of dives; doing the little things better.”

Just as she did on one day one, sophomore Elyse Brouillette overcame a slow start on the 3-meter board to finish ahead of 25 divers in the field. Brouillette failed on her first dive, earning her a score of zero, yet scored an impressive 235.90 on her remaining five dives.

“Elyse dove really well, with the exception of one dive,” Iowa State head diving coach Jeff Warrick said. “She failed on her first dive. It was pretty impossible to recover from the hurdle that she had to overcome, but she finished in the top half with a failed dive.”

Iowa State newcomer Becky Stochl made a figurative splash for the Cyclones as she tallied her career high on the 3-meter board, scoring a 190.20. As a freshman, setting a personal best on such a big stage is an accomplishment to be proud of, according to Warrick.

“The environment is just huge with the number of divers and the level of competition in the field,” Warrick said. “This is a great experience for them to be here; it’s tough, it’s challenging, but they are going to walk out of here knowing that they can compete at the highest level.”

The Cyclones return to the Gabrielsen Natatorium for day three of the Georgia Invitational and the platform diving event tomorrow at 9:00 a.m. EST.
