Greetings from Florida,

Welcome to the fifth day of training! It has been another cloudy and windy day today, but it is not quite as cold yesterday. The cloudy weather, however, hasn’t stopped us from wearing our two-piece suits. We left for the pool around 9:30 a.m. again today. Riding in the van is usually a good time to listen to music, chat with teammates, and mentally prepare for practice.

Once we arrived at the pool, we got changed and headed into the water. There were two groups this morning: IM and freestyle. We both did our separate practices for about an hour and then came back together as a group to do stations. There were four different stations that consisted of tubing, turns, parachutes, and 50s swim. Stations give us a good opportunity to practice different parts of our stroke.

After morning practice, we had a short team meeting. We talked about how close conference is and how it’s the little things we need to work on in order to become better. This is motivating because conference will be here before too long, and it’s definitely important to start working on improving our technique now.

In between practices is a good time to relax. Even though the weather hasn’t been as nice, there are still a few daring souls willing to play in the waves. For those who like to stay inside, it’s a great chance to spend time with teammates, cozy up with a good book, or take a nap.

Night practice was in the long course pool. Tonight everyone was in the same group and we did a set of 4x200s at about 90% effort.  Everyone worked really hard, and the coaches were proud of our efforts.

After practice we went back to our resort on the beach and had dinner. Tonight my roommates and I ate at a local burger restaurant. We enjoyed our meals and then visited some of the little tourist shops around Ft. Lauderdale. Now we’re working on our skits, which we will be performing tomorrow night.

So far it’s been an enjoyable training trip. We’ve been putting in a lot of hard work here in Florida, which I know is helping to prepare us for our conference meet. I’ve been having a lot of fun here so far, and I am happy to be able to come here and work hard alongside my teammates.
