Cyclones Make A Move, Jump To Sixth At NCAA Regional
COLUMBIA, Mo. – Iowa State men’s golf made a move in round two of the NCAA Columbia Regional this afternoon, carding a 2-under 286 tally. ISU’s solid round jumped the Cyclones up to sixth place in the team race with their two-round 579 total.
The top five teams at the regional will advance to the NCAA Championship, May 23-28 at the Prairie Dunes Country Club in Hutchinson, Kansas. Arizona State currently occupies the fifth and final spot at 576, just three strokes ahead of the Cyclones with the final round tomorrow.
Arkansas and Oklahoma State are the 36-hole leaders at 559.
The Cyclones posted consistent and steady rounds from Ruben Sondjaja (70), Scott Fernandez (71), Sam Daley (72) and Collin Foster (73) en route to the fourth-best round of the day.
Sondjaja, a freshman from Sydney, Australia, is currently tied for 13th at 142 (72-70) to pace the Cyclones. The rookie went 3-under in his final 14 holes this afternoon.
Fernandez, an All-American who is competing in his third-straight NCAA Regional, is currently tied for 16th at 143 (72-71). Fernandez’s round was aided by an 11-hole stretch where he went 4-under. He had five birdies on his card today.
Daley is in a tie for 27th at 146 (74-72) and Foster is tied for 31st at 148 (75-73).
The tournament concludes tomorrow with 18 holes.
