AMES, Iowa - Iowa State junior gymnast Michelle Shealy was named Big 12 Conference Event Specialist of the Week, the league office announced Monday.

The 2011 Big 12 Newcomer of the Year earned the honor after winning the beam title at both Iowa (Friday) and a four-team meet at UCLA (Sunday).  At both meets, Shealy registered a season-high-tying 9.875 score on the beam.  Shealy also notched a career-high 9.900 score on bars at Iowa State's meet UCLA.  Shealy's 9.900 bars score is the highest score on any event by a Cyclone in 2013.

Shealy's beam victory Sunday was especially impressive because she downed beam workers from No. 3 Michigan, No. 6 UCLA and California.

The league award is the fifth of Shealy's career and her first event specialist honor.
