LUBBOCK, Texas – Texas Tech took game three of the series against Iowa State, 10-1 in five innings, on a windy Sunday afternoon at Rocky Johnson Field. The loss dropped ISU to 22-25-1 overall and 2-10 in the Big 12. TTU improved to 35-16 overall, 8-7 in the conference.

Errors, Mistakes Hurt ISU Early
Though the wind was a factor for both teams, it was Iowa State who made the mistakes to allow Texas Tech to get ahead early. Sydni Emanuel led off with a double and advanced to third two batters later on a passed ball. Paris Imholz got Cassie McClure to pop up, but Maddie Reese could not bring it in and it gave Tech a reprieve with one out.

The Red Raiders got to work as Gretchen Aucoin grounded to second, Davison decided to go home and get Emanuel, but TTU got the call and a 1-0 lead. During Kierra Miles’s at-bat, an Imholz wild pitch gave TTU a 2-0 lead. Samantha Camello got the third TTU run of the inning with a single to center.

Iowa State Gets on the Board
Aly Cappaert led off the second with a single to left and would advance to second on a wild pitch during Jorden Spendlove’s at-bat. During Maddie Reese’s at-bat and with two outs, Sara Davison, who reached on a TTU dropped pop up, went for second base. Tech throw all the way to second while Davison stopped, allowing Cappaert to come home. Davison surrendered herself on the out, but got the run and reduced the TTU lead to 3-1.

Gomez Continues to Make History
Brittany Gomez’s lead-off single in the first inning was her 66th hit of the season, tying her total from last season which ranks second in Iowa State history. Gomez is 11 hits away from ISU’s school record of 77 set by Jenny Condon in 1988.
