NEW ORLEANS – The United States Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) announced its 2013 Academic honoress this morning, recognizing five Iowa State student-athletes for their performance both on and off the course.

On the men’s side, seniors Martin Coolidge and 2013 All-American Mohamed Hrezi earned the honor. Coolidge, a meteorology major, posted a 3.63 GPA this past semester and has a career GPA mark of 3.76. The Elyria, Ohio, native finished 14th at both the Big 12 Conference meet and NCAA Midwest Regional Championships en route to All-Big 12 and All-Midwest recognition.

Hrezi is a career 3.30 GPA student in accounting and notched a 3.33 this past semester. Hrezi was Iowa State’s top runner this past fall and notched the highest men’s individual finish (24th) at the NCAA Championships since 1995 (Dmitry Drozdov – 21st). The Naugatuck, Conn., native also earned All-Big 12 and All-Region honors this season.

Hrezi is one of nine student-athletes to garner All-Academic status and place in the top 25 at the national championships, placing fourth at NCAA’s.

Three Cyclone women earned All-Academic accolades in freshman Bethanie Brown, junior Katy Moen and senior Samantha Bluske.

Brown notched a perfect 4.0 GPA in her first semester at Iowa State and placed 37th at the NCAA Championships to earn All-America recognition. The Waterville, Maine, native placed fifth at the Big 12 Championships and third at the NCAA Midwest Regional, consistently running in the Cyclones’ top five.

Brown is one of 29 student-athletes in the nation to earn both All-Academic and All-America accolades this season.

Moen, an early childhood and special education major, is a career 3.55 student and finished the fall semester at 3.50, while scoring in each meet that she raced for the Cyclones. The Fairbank, Iowa, native earned NCAA All-Region and All-Big 12 accolades this fall, in a strong junior campaign.

Bluske notched a 3.38 GPA this fall as a diet and exercise major, finishing just above her overall mark of 3.35. Bluske made an impressive recovery after being sidelined for much of the season with a stress fracture. The Chaseburg, Wis., native came back strong and notched All-Big 12 and All-Region finishes and competed for the Cyclones at the NCAA Championships meet. The Cyclone senior is a three-time Academic All-Big 12 member.

Both the men's and women's teams earned All-Academic accolades as well, posting team GPA's of 3.06 and 3.35 respectively.
