Cyclones Leap Into Fourth at Big 12 Championship
AUSTIN, Texas- The No. 24 Iowa State women’s golf team vaulted into fourth place Saturday in the second round at the Big 12 Championship by firing a 293 team tally (302-293=595). The Cyclones, who entered the day in eighth place, are currently 12 strokes off the lead, which is held by the Sooners of Oklahoma (291-292=583).
Texas’ Natalie Karcher owns the individual lead with a two-day total of 140 (71-69).
Junior Chonlada Chayanun picked up right where she left off in the first round. She fired an even par 72 today to bring her total for the championship to 145 (73-72). Her 36-hole mark has her in a tie for sixth in the medalist race.
Senior Sasikarn On-iam is also in the top-10 in a tie for 10th with one round left to play. On-iam carded a 1-over 73 today to bring her tournament total to 148 (75-73). On-iam is in search of her first Big 12 Championship top-10 finish.
Sophomore Cajsa Persson also shot an even par 72 in this afternoon’s second round to aid ISU’s efforts. Persson is currently tied for 13th with a 36-hole score of 149 (77-72). She finished tied for eighth last season in her first conference championship to earn All-Big 12 honors.
The Big 12 Championship will wrap up at the UT Golf Club with the final 18-hole round, which is set to take place tomorrow morning. The Cyclones are in search of their fourth top-4 finish in the league in the last five seasons.
