ISU Moves Up To Fourth Place At Besty Rawls Invite

AUSTIN, Texas— The No. 15 Iowa State women’s golf team shot a second-round 282 this afternoon at the Betsy Rawls Longhorn Invitational to jump into fourth-place heading into tomorrow’s final round (291-282=573). ISU’s 282 tally is the second best 18-hole team score in school history and it tied for the low 18-hole score of the day. UCLA is the tournament leader at 563.

The tournament features five teams ranked in Golfweek’s top-30, including top-ranked UCLA.

Sophomore Cajsa Persson became the first Cyclone in school history to record back-to-back sub-70 rounds when she carded three birdies in her last five holes for a 3-under 69. Persson is currently in third place (69-69=138) in the medalist race.  UCLA’s Alison Lee (69-68) and Mississippi State’s Jessica Peng (67-70) are the second-round leaders at 137.

Junior Chonlada Chayanun came out firing in the second round, recording five birdies during her round for a career-low 69. Chayanun is currently tied for 20th (75-69=144).

Senior Sasikarn On-iam fired an even-par 72 in the second round to sit in a tie for 11th at 142 (70-72). ISU’s Prima Thammaraks also recorded an even-par 72 today. Thammaraks is currently in a tie for 43rd (77-72) at 149.

The tournament will conclude with 18 holes tomorrow.
