NIAGARA FALLS, N.Y. – Iowa State golfer Prima Thammaraks had a great start to her summer by placing second at the inaugural Women’s Porter Cup, June 12-14 at the Niagara Falls Country Club in Niagara Falls, N.Y.

The Porter Cup was established in the 1950s for amateur men golfers and has grown into one of the top amateur events nationwide. This is the first year where the Porter Cup set up an event for women.

A native of Bangkok, Thailand, Thammaraks shot rounds of 69-72 for a two-round 141 total. Oklahoma State’s Casie Cathrea won the inaugural title at 138, three shots ahead of Thammaraks.

Thammaraks, who will be a senior next season for the Cyclones, has had an outstanding career on the links at Iowa State. The All-Big 12 performer posted a 75.7 stroke average last year to help ISU rank in the top-25 nationally throughout the season.

Former Cyclone Punpaka Phuntumabamrung, a three-time All-Big 12 performer, tied for eighth at the Porter Cup with rounds of 75-70. Her final-round 70 tied for the lowest score of the day.
