Cyclones Earn Third-Straight NCAA Regional Berth
AMES, Iowa - The Iowa State women's golf team will be heading into the postseason for the third season in a row. The 37th-ranked Cyclones were selected to play in the NCAA West Regional, announced today by the NCAA Selection Show on NCAA.com.
The NCAA West Regional will be held at the Colorado National Golf Club in Erie, Colo., May 10-12. The top eight teams in the regional will advance to the NCAA Championships, May 22-25 at the Vanderbilt Legends Club in Franklin, Tenn.
Iowa State is hoping a third time will be a charm in its quest to make the NCAA Championships. The Cyclones, who have qualified for NCAA Regional competition seven times in school history (1993, 1994, 1995, 1996, 2010, 2011, 2012), finished 10th at the NCAA West Regional the last two seasons, falling five shots shy of the NCAA cut on both occasions.
The Cyclones tied for fourth at the Big 12 Championships on Sunday, equaling their best finish in the Big 12 meet. Iowa State had three players in the top-20 at the Big 12 Championships, including a top-10 performance from junior Punpaka Phuntumabamrung, her third-straight top-10 effort. She earned Big 12 All-Tournament honors for the second time in her career.
