ISU in 5th Place After First Round in Puerto Rico

RIO GRANDE, Puerto Rico - The No. 25 Iowa State women's golf team is in fifth place after the opening round of the Lady Puerto Rico Classic on Sunday. The Cyclones fired a 299, eight strokes behind first-round leader No. 12 Arkansas (293).

The tournament features 11 teams ranked in the nation's top-40 according to Golfstat.

Senior Punpaka Phumtumabamrung and junior Prima Thammarkas both fired a pair of 73s to sit in a tie for fourth place after the first round. Sophomore Beth Wagner is also tied for fourth, she is competeing as an individual. Sasikarn On-iam is tied for 39th after carding a 76.

The Cyclones will play 18 holes tomorrow and conclude the tournament on Tuesday with the final 18 holes.
