CORAL GABLES, Fla. - The No. 21 Iowa State women’s golf team took hold of the lead after the second round of the Hurricane Invitational this afternoon.  The Cyclones recorded a 286 (285-286=571) today to mount a three-shot lead over Northwestern (290-284=574) heading into the final round tomorrow.

The Cyclones are looking for their first tournament victory since the 2012 Dick McGuire Invitational.

Senior Sasikarn On-iam paced the Cyclones again today with her second-straight 69 to jump into the lead in the medalist race (69-69=138). On-iam went on a birdie binge on the back nine, recording five-straight birdies.

The consecutive 69s for On-iam marks the third time this season that an ISU golfer (Cajsa Persson, Prima Thammaraks) has recorded back-to-back sub-70 rounds in a tournament. It had never happened before in school history prior to this season.

Junior Chonlada Chayanun aided the Cyclone effort today with a 1-under 70. She is currently tied for eighth at 143 (73-70).

Thammaraks is also looking to place in the top-10 for the third time this season and the eighth time in her career. She is currently tied for 13th at 144 (71-73=144).

Tomorrow’s third round will conclude play at the Hurricane Invitational.
