TRINITY, Texas- The Iowa State men’s golf team recorded its second-best finish in Big 12 Championship history this afternoon, placing fourth with rounds of 292-300-291-284 (1167). ISU’s final-round 284 was the third-lowest score of the day, as the Cyclones were 4-under on the day.

ISU’s best showing at the Big 12 Championship was a third-place performance at the inaugural meet in 1997.

The Cyclones had three players place in the top-10, including a brilliant performance from junior Sam Daley, who was the runner-up medalist at 286 (72-74-69-71) to help him earn all-tournament honors. Daley’s second-place performance was the best finish by a Cyclone in Big 12 Championship history and the best by a Cyclone since Dan Molyneaux was the medalist at the 1953 Big Seven meet.

Daley, who finished 2-under for the tournament, carded a 69 in the third round, only the sixth sub-70 round ever by a Cyclone in a conference tournament. It was the best finish of Daley’s career and his third top-10 of the season.

Freshmen Ruben Sondjaja and Nick Voke made auspicious debuts in the Big 12 Championship, tying for ninth at 293. Voke became the sixth Cyclone to notch a sub-70 round in the league meet with a blistering 4-under 68 this afternoon. It was his team-high eighth round in the 60s this season.

Voke shot rounds of 71-75-79-68 en route to his fourth top-10 performance of the season.

Sondjaja followed up yesterday’s 2-under 70 with another 70 this afternoon (76-77-70-70). Sondjaja now has four top-10 finishes this season.

Daley, Voke and Sondjaja all earned Big 12 All-Tournament honors.

Texas took home the team title with a 72-hole 1158 total (287-285-295-291). TCU’s Julien Brun set a conference record by posting an 11-under 277 to net medalist honors.

Thanks to its strong showing this weekend, the Cyclones are a virtual lock to earn their second NCAA Regional berth in the last three years. The NCAA selection show will be aired live on the Golf Channel on Monday May 5.
