AMES, Iowa- The No. 25 Iowa State women’s golf team will make its school-record-breaking fifth-straight appearance to the NCAA Regionals. The Cyclones were selected to play in the NCAA West Regional, May 8-10 in Elum, Wash., as the No. 9 seed. The NCAA Regional participants were announced this evening on Golf Central.

The NCAA West Regional will take place at the Tumble Creek at Suncadia Resort with the University of Washington as the host. The top eight teams in the three regionals will advance to the NCAA Championships, May 20-23 in Tulsa, Okla.

This marks the ninth time in school history (1993, 1994, 1995, 1996, 2010, 2011, 2012, 2013, 2014) Iowa State has qualified for an NCAA Regional. This year’s squad is aiming to become the first Cyclone team ever to advance to the NCAA Finals. Iowa State’s best finishes in an NCAA Regional came in 2010 and 2011 when the Cyclones finished 10th in both tournaments.

“This really exciting for our program to make it to Regionals the last five years,” Iowa State head women’s golf coach Christie Martens said. “This is something we set as our expectation every year. Now it is about continuing on and going there and playing well.”

The Cyclones tied for fourth at the Big 12 Championships this past weekend at the University of Texas Golf Club in Austin, Texas. It marked the fifth season in a row where the Cyclones placed fourth or better at the Big 12 Championship. Junior Chonlada Chayanun and senior Sasikarn On-iam both made the Big 12 All-Tournament team, tying for fourth and ninth, respectively, in the medalist race.

On-iam, who has compiled one of the best seasons in program history, will lead the Cyclones in the post-season. The Bangkok, Thailand native has netted a team-best scoring average of 73.28 this season, which is on track to break Punpaka Phuntumabamrung’s record (74.2) as the lowest single-stroke stroke average in school history. On-iam garnered medalist honors at the Hurricane Invitational in March, becoming the first Cyclone in over five years to win a tournament.

On-iam (No. 84) is one of four Cyclones ranked in the nation’s top-150 according to Golfweek: Cajsa Persson (No. 110), Chayanun (No. 122) and Prima Thammaraks (No. 131).
