Cyclones Speak at Area Elementary School
AMES, Iowa -- Iowa State basketball standouts Wesley Johnson and Bryan Petersen traveled to Rolling Green Elementary School in Urbandale, Iowa to speak with Melissa Hummel’s fifth-grade elementary class.
The event was coordinated through the ISU athletics department’s Life Skills Program. The visit was organized as an exciting way for Iowa schoolchildren to learn about Iowa’s Six Pillars of Character.
“It was about respect,” Johnson said “We talked about our teammates and how you can never get down on each other. I think that’s an important lesson for all kids to learn.”
Hummel enjoyed the Cyclones’ visit.
“It was very nice to have two gentlemen that could show our students that you can grow up to be successful both in and out of the classroom,” Hummel said.
The far-reaching benefit of such programs was not lost on Johnson.
“It’s good to talk about things like this because sometimes teaching them how to treat others is a great reminder for all of us,” Johnson said.
