IRVING, Texas Iowa State senior guard Shellie Mosman was named to the Chick-fil-A Winter Community of Champions by the Big 12 Conference. During the fall, winter and spring terms, one student-athlete from each institution is chosen based on academics, community service and leadership/sportsmanship.

Mosman epitomizes each of these qualities for the 17th-ranked Cyclone women’s basketball team. Mosman finished her undergraduate degree in three years with a 4.0 grade-point average in finance. This year she has worked on her master’s in accounting and is on schedule to graduate in May.

“I feel honored to be recognized as a Big 12 Chick-fil-A Community Champion,” Mosman said. “Iowa State provides a great educational experience for its students. I have been blessed to have great professors, tutors, and mentors to help me find success in the classroom. Ames is also a great community with great people. It has been fun to get out and meet people who support not only Iowa State athletics, but love Iowa State women's basketball.”

Mosman has served as a vice president for the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee, and has been a member of the committee since the fall of 2007. SAAC is a committee assembled to provide insight on the student-athlete experience. The SAAC also offers input on the rules, regulations and polices that affect student-athletes' lives on NCAA member institution campuses.

The Carroll, Iowa, native has been involved in organizing and participating in a number of community service projects with the ISU women’s basketball team. She has helped raise over $10,000 for the MS Walk over the last three years. She is a regular visitor to Ames elementary school to read to the students, and makes a yearly visit to the Green Hills Retirement home to visit the residents.

Mosman has also participated in the Dance Marathon, which raises money for disabled children, the United Way Day of Caring, and has volunteered at the New Moines homeless shelter, along with many other community service projects.

Mosman has seen time in 12 games this season and earned a start against Arkansas-Pine Bluff. In that game she scored a career-high 14 points and dished out five assists. For the season she is averaging 1.8 points and 0.9 rebounds a contest.

Iowa State, as well as the other Big 12 institutions, will be awarded $3,000 each year from Chick-fil-A for their Community Champion efforts.
