AMES, Iowa – The Iowa State women’s golf team will be making the postseason for a school-record-tying fourth-straight season. The 22nd-ranked Cyclones were selected to play in the NCAA Central Regional, announced today by the NCAA Selection Show on

The NCAA Central Regional will be held at the Jimmie Austin OU Golf Club in Norman, Okla., May 9-11. The top eight teams in the regional will advance to the NCAA Championships, May 21-24 at the University of Georgia Golf Course in Athens, Ga.

The Cyclones, which made four-straight NCAA Regional appearances from 1993-96, are aiming for their first spot in the NCAA finals. Iowa State has qualified for NCAA Regional competition eight times in school history (1993, 1994, 1995, 1996, 2010, 2011, 2012, 2013), placing 14th at the 2012 NCAA West Regional. The best finish for an Iowa State team at a NCAA Regional is 10th place on two occasions (2010, 2011), falling five shots shy of advancing to the NCAA finals both times.

The Cyclones are coming off a third-place finish at the Big 12 Championship at The Harvester Golf Club in Rhodes, Iowa. It’s the best finish by a Cyclone team in Big 12 Championship history and marks the fourth-straight season where the Cyclones finished fourth or better at the conference meet.

Iowa State senior Punpaka Phuntumabamrung has been the Cyclone leader all season with a team-low 74.2 stroke average, which is on pace to break the single-season school record. Phuntumabamrung was the runner-up medalist at the Big 12 Championship, carding rounds of 77-68-76 en route to the best finish by a Cyclone in Big 12 Championship history. She has placed in the top-10 in three of four Big 12 Championships she’s competed in.

The Cyclone star, who is ranked 62nd nationally by Golfstat, has a team-high four top-10 finishes this season and has played in a school-record 133 rounds in her brilliant four-year career.

True freshman Cajsa Persson joined Phuntumabamrung on the Big 12 All-Tournament team by tying for fifth at the Big 12 Championship. Persson carded rounds of 81-73-72.
