AMES, Iowa – The Iowa State men’s and women’s golf programs have collectively achieved a historic feat this week, appearing  in the nation’s top-25 at the same time for the first time in school history. Golfstat ranks the Cyclone women 13th nationally and the Cyclone men at No. 25. In the Golfweek rankings, the ISU women are ranked 16th and the men 30th.

The women are coming off a sixth-place finish at the Windy City Collegiate, a tournament which featured many of the top programs in the nation. The Cyclones opened the season with a third-place finish at the Dick McGuire Invitational.

Pacing the Cyclone women is sophomore Cajsa Persson, who is off to a fabulous start by recording a pair of top-10 finishes to open the season. Persson is ranked 29th nationally in the Golfweek individual rankings after tying ISU’s 54-hole scoring mark at the Windy City Collegiate (212). ISU’s top-four golfers all have stroke averages below 74.00 through two tournaments.

The Cyclone men appear in the nation’s top-25 thanks to the outstanding play of their top four golfers (Scott Fernandez, Sam Daley, Nick Voke, Ruben Sondjaja), who each have at least one top-10 finish in the first three tournaments. True freshmen Voke and Sondjaja have two top-10 finishes to begin their careers, as Voke leads the team with a 71.67 stroke average and is ranked 175th nationally by Golfweek.

Fernandez, a 2013 All-American, has 15 career top-10 showings, including one this season.
