Each day a member of the Iowa State women's basketball team will write a blog detailing our adventures in Italy. In today's blog, junior Kidd Blaskowsky details our first day in Rome, Italy. To follow along on our journey even more closely, please follow @CycloneWBB.

Today we left Rome and headed to Florence. It takes about four hours to get there. Most of the team and I have been resting because yesterday after dinner we wanted to leave Rome with a bang! So we stayed up late, talked to each other, and played games. It was good to see the team chemistry start to grow so early in the year.

Surprisingly, when I woke up from my nap on the drive to Florence I saw sunflowers and a small corn field, for a second I thought we were back home in Iowa.

We arrived in Florence, we are currently staying in a very nice hotel called the Grand Hotel Baglioni and right across the street from the hotel I got a slice of pizza with some of the team. Pizza is about the only food I have been eating since our first day in Rome!

During our Tour of Florence we came across the fifth-biggest cathedral church in the world. My eyes started hurting from looking so high at the church. We also went to a museum called Galleria Dell'Accademia and saw famous art work from Michelangelo along with other famous artists. Florence is well known for their wine so after the tour we went wine tasting at Enoteca Ponte Vecchio and learned about a verity of different wines.

I'm so glad the team and even some fans came on this trip. We really have gotten to know each other much better and have done some exciting things that not only bring us close together as a team, but more so individually. There is no other team I would rather be on, the respect each one of us have for each other has grown since the day we stepped foot in Rome. Of course I miss being home in Ames and spending time with my family in Texas, but I feel just as at home with this amazing team, fans and coaches. I'm so blessed to be here and experience Italy for the first time.

This is an amazing experience for myself, the team, and coaching staff. We are enjoying every minute of our time here and we play in our first "match" as the Italians would say tomorrow.

Go Cyclones!!!
