AMES, Iowa -  Former Iowa State wrestlers will be competing at the U.S. Olympic Team Trials Saturday and Sunday in Iowa City at Carver-Hawkeye Arena. The Cyclone alums will participate in the freestyle division beginning at 9 a.m. Saturday.

Travis and Trent Paulson will be first on the mat in the trials. The Paulsons are both competing in the 74 KG/163 pounds division and wrestle Saturday morning. Former NCAA Champion at 174 pounds, Jon Reader, is set to compete in the third session Sunday beginning at 9 a.m. Three-time All-American David Zabriskie takes the mat in the final session beginning at 6 p.m. Sunday.

USA Wrestling has partnered with NBCOlympics to provide a live webcast of all four mats of the trials. To see the webcast, visit For updates on Twitter, follow @IowaCity2London throughout the competition.

Reader finished his senior campaign in 2011 with an undefeated record and has since been training for the Olympic Trials. The three-time All-American also claimed a Big 12 title crown and feels mentally and physically ready for this weekend's challenge.

"I am so excited for the opportunity in front of me," Reader said. "I have zero regrets with my training and preparation. I have given 110 percent towards reaching my goal. My mind and body are in a good place right now and I am ready for war."
Reader will be wrestling in the 84 KG/185 pounds bracket.

Zabriskie was the 2010 Heavyweight NCAA champion. The 6-footer finished his senior campaign with a 26-2 record and garnered his third Big 12 crown in his final Cyclone campaign.

"I'm really excited," Zabriskie said. "Aside from the Olympics, this is the single most prestigious tournament you can win."

Prior to becoming an assistant coach for the Cyclones this year, Travis Paulson was a three-time All-American at Iowa State. Trent Paulson was also a three-time All-American and claimed a national title at 157 pounds in 2007.

"I view wrestling as an opportunity to do something great," Travis Paulson said. "I have put everything into my training and I'm ready for this weekend."

Also among the former Cyclone wrestlers participating the U.S. Olympic Team Trials is Jake Varner, who will be competing at 96 KG/211.5 pounds.
