Simonson Earns All-Big 12 Academic Honors

AMES, Iowa - Iowa State heavyweight Kyle Simonson has been named to the 2010-2011 Academic All-Big 12 wrestling second team as an award for his outstanding season of victories and good grades.  Simonson is one of just18 student athletes chosen.  He is a junior majoring in animal science.
 
Simonson ended the season with a record of 26-12, while giving up as much as 60 pounds to his opponents.  He automatically qualified his way to the NCAA Championship which took place in March. He ended the season second on the team in victories, including a victory over eventual national runner-up Ryan Flores of American.

To qualify for the Academic All-Big 12 Wrestling Team, a wrestler must hold a GPA of 3.0 and above either cumulative, or the two previous semesters while participating in 60 percent of their team's scheduled contests.
