No. 20 ISU Heads To Stillwater For Big 12 Finale

STILLWATER, Okla. - The No. 20 Iowa State wrestling team (9-4 overall, 1-2 Big 12) travels to Oklahoma State for the first annual Big 12 Duals Friday, followed by the 2013 Big 12 Championships on Saturday.

The new format for this year's Big 12 Championship weekend consists of each school in the Big 12 wrestling one dual against each other on Friday. Coaches will then meet on Sunday morning to decide the seeds for Saturday's Big 12 Championships.

 

Friday, March 8, Big 12 Duals Schedule

ISU vs. Oklahoma (3-8 overall, 2-1 Big 12) - 11 a.m.
ISU vs. Oklahoma State (17-1 overall, 3-0 Big 12) - 1 p.m.
ISU vs. West Virginia (1-8 overall, 0-3 Big 12) - 7 p.m.

Trophy presentation for regular season Big 12 dual champion - 9 p.m.

 

Saturday, March 9, Big 12 Championship Schedule

Semifinals matches on both mats - 5 p.m.
Championship matches on mat 1, third-place matches on mat 2 - 7 p.m.

Cyclone Notebook

-Iowa State has won eight of its last nine duals dating back to a Jan. 11, 19-15 win at Rutgers.

-No. 7 Kyven Gadson is currently on a nine-match win streak since his fourth place finish at the 50th Midlands Championships back on Dec. 29-30 in Evanston, Ill.

-Gadson's streak features three wins over top-ten foes; Arizona State's Jake Meredith, Oklahoma State's Blake Rosholt and Penn's Micah Burak.

-Gadson, who has been named the Big 12 Wrestler of the Week four times this season, has won three consecutive matches by fall.

-No. 18 Michael Moreno leads the 2012-13 Cyclones in wins with 22. The Urbandale, Iowa native has won eight of his last nine matches, including five major decisions and one pin.

-No. 15 Boaz Beard is 13-6 overall on the year and 8-3 in duals. Beard is 2-0 against Big 12 competition on the year highlighted by an 8-2 upset over No. 11 Chris Chionuma of Oklahoma State.

-No. 20 Tanner Weatherman has won eight of his last nine matches. Like Moreno, Weatherman has five major decisions and one pin during the streak.

-Weatherman, a Huxley, Iowa native, is the only freshman to win the Big 12 Wrestler of the Week this season.

-No. 19 Matt Gibson is the reigning Big 12 Champion at heavyweight. Gibson, who is 14-7 overall on the year, defeated Oklahoma State's Austin Marsden 8-3 in the title bout at 285 last season.
