Iowa State Host Rutgers Friday Night

AMES, Iowa – The Iowa State wrestling team (6-2 overall, 1-1 Big 12) welcomes Rutgers (9-2 overall, 6-0 EIWA) to Hilton Coliseum for the first time in school history Friday night at 7 p.m. CDT.

All Iowa State students are invited to attend at no cost. Simply present your ISUCard at the door and receive complimentary general admission seating.

- All-American Kyven Gadson will be putting a 22-match dual win streak on the line. He is 22-0 in duals the last two seasons.
- Gadson debuted as the consensus No. 2 wrestler in the country in the national rankings this week for the first time.
- No. 10 Michael Moreno leads the team in dual takedowns with 20.
- Earl Hall will likely be back in the lineup after sitting out the Oklahoma dual on Sunday, Jan. 12.
- Head coach Kevin Jackson is seeking his 50th career dual win this season and will look to inch closer Friday night. Jackson’s career record sits at 43-32.
- Iowa State remained 17th in the latest USA Today/NWCA/AWN Coaches Poll with 237 points. The Cyclones have three duals remaining this season against top-10 opponents: No. 5 Oklahoma State (Jan. 24), No. 9 Northern Iowa (Feb. 7) and No. 2 Minnesota (Feb. 23). - Friday night’s dual will be the Cyclones’ last home dual until the season finale on Feb. 23 with No. 2 Minnesota.

Last Time Out
- Iowa State was handed it’s first Big 12 loss of the season last Sunday, as it fell 27-11 to No. 4 Oklahoma.
- In the main event of the dual, No. 2 Kyven Gadson downed No. 3 Travis Rutt of OU 3-1, scoring a takedown 19 seconds into the first sudden-victory period to earn the win.
- The win was Gadson’s fourth over a top-12 ranked opponent this season.
- Heavyweight Quean Smith picked up his first career win vs. a ranked opponent, as he upset No. 14 Ross Larson 13-2. Smith scored four takedowns and one three-point nearfall in the match.
- All-American Michael Moreno got back on the winning trail after going 4-2 at the Southern Scuffle and not placing. The Urbandale, Iowa, native blanked OU’s Clark Glass 13-0.

Scouting Rutgers
- The Scarlet Knights bring a 9-2 overall record and a perfect 6-0 conference record into Friday night’s dual.
- Head coach Scott Goodale leads Rutgers. He is 101-33-1 in seven seasons at the helm.
- RU has one ranked wrestler. Heavyweight Billy Smith is No. 17 in the latest InterMat poll. Smith is 16-5 this season with four of his losses coming to ranked wrestlers.

Series Notes vs. Rutgers
- Iowa State leads the all-time series with Rutgers 2-0-1.
- The Cyclones’ downed the Scarlet Knights 19-15 last season. Matt Gibson sealed the dual win for ISU with a come from behind 7-5 victory over RU’s Billy Smith.
- ISU and RU wrestled for the first time in 50 years last season.
- Rutgers will be making their first appearance in school history at Iowa State. All three previous meetings between ISU and RU took place in Piscataway, N.J.
- Head coach Kevin Jackson is 1-0 all-time against Rutgers.
- Iowa State and Rutgers first met on the mat on Dec. 8, 1960.
