AMES, Iowa – The National Wrestling Coaches Association (NWCA) announced its annual academic awards this afternoon, naming Iowa State redshirt freshman Gabe Moreno to the 2013-14 All-Academic Team.

Moreno was one of six Cyclone grapplers to compete at the NCAA Championships this season and notched two victories in the tournament. The Urbandale, Iowa, native found success in tournaments and notched a seventh-place finish at the Cliff Keen Las Vegas Invitational, as well as a runner-up finish at the Big 12 Championship. Moreno finished the season with a mark of 21 wins, 18 losses but worked to an 18-8 record in tournament action.

The Cyclone is a career 3.31-GPA student in psychology and was named to the Academic All-Big 12 first team earlier this season. Moreno was Iowa State’s lone selection to the All-Academic team and received the Outstanding Academic Award for having the highest GPA on the team this season.
