FARGO, N.D. - Iowa State signee Renaldo Rodriguez-Spencer took home the third national title of his young career, yesterday, at the United States Junior Greco Nationals. The annual tournament showcases top prep talent from around the nation.

Rodriguez-Spencer competed at the 145-pound weight class, dominating the competition with seven tech falls in as many matches. The Cheektowga, New York, native opened competition with a 14-4 victory before going on a four-match tear in which he held opponents scoreless, winning the subsequent matches by scores of 10-0, 11-0, 10-0 and 10-0.

In his semifinal match, Rodriguez-Spencer took on Larry Early, an Illinois high-school product. Rodriguez-Spencer dismissed Early in a 12-2 victory to earn a spot in the national final against Sir Romeo Howard, another Illinois prep standout.

The future Cyclone pulled off a superduck in the championship bout, scoring major points against Howard. Rodriguez-Spencer attributes his big-move capability to his speed, a talent he looks to showcase next season for the Cardinal and Gold.

As stated above, Rodriguez-Spencer went 7-0 at the tournament, winning each match by tech fall and outscoring opponents by a cumulative score of 83-11.

Rodriguez-Spencer has developed a flair for the dramatic, winning the 2013 NHSCA national championship in a come-from-behind victory that became an internet sensation thanks to a title-winning flying squirrel move.
