Iowa State Hosts Football Reunion
AMES, Iowa – The Iowa State Letterwinners Club hosted its annual football reunion social this evening in the Jacobson Building. Over 80 former Cyclone gridders will make a return trip to Ames this weekend to watch Iowa State take on No. 19 Oklahoma State in sold-out Jack Trice Stadium tomorrow afternoon.
Following the social on Friday, the reunion will include a Letterwinners Club tailgate prior to the game on Saturday.
Iowa State Director of Special Events/Letterwinners Lindsey Long oversees the football reunion and has witnessed its continuous growth throughout the last five years.
“The growth of engagement among football letterwinners is very encouraging,” Long said. “This weekend is very special because we have guys coming back who represent a wide range of eras dating back to 1950, and collectively they represent the culture of Iowa State football.”
One of the attendees at the reunion was former quarterback Chris Pederson (1988-91). The Ankeny, Iowa native is best remembered for his 148-yard rushing, two-touchdown performance in ISU’s 33-31 upset win over No. 16 Oklahoma in Norman in 1990. It was Pedersen’s 1-yard TD lunge with 0:35 seconds left which proved to be the game winner.
Pedersen remembers the game vividly.
“It was really a team effort,” Pedersen recalled. “Our defense did a great job holding them. Oklahoma had missed a chip shot field goal to put the game out of reach and then we had the chance to drive 80 yards to go ahead. It is certainly something I will remember for the rest of my life.”
Iowa State will honor all of the past Cyclone football letterwinners at halftime tomorrow afternoon. Kickoff is set for 11 a.m., CT and the game is televised by FSN.
